Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore is expected to receive a two-game suspension from the university due to his alleged involvement in the Connor Stalions scandal, Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger confirmed.
Moore is expected to miss the team’s Week 3 game against Central Michigan and Week 4 game against Nebraska as a result of the suspension. Moore will reportedly be allowed to coach the team in Week 2 when it plays Oklahoma, Moore’s alma mater, per ESPN’s Dan Wetzel, who first reported the news.
Moore’s suspension is self-imposed by the university. Moore could still face additional punishment from the NCAA. In response to Monday’s report, the NCAA will hold a hearing in June.
In addition to the self-imposed suspension, Moore will face “additional recruiting-related penalties” from the school, according to ESPN.

The suspension stems from the Stalions scandal. In 2023, the NCAA launched an investigation into Stalions and Michigan for alleged sign stealing. Stalions was accused of sending people to film opponents’ signals before Michigan played those teams. Michigan suspended Stalions, who was a defensive analyst with the team. When the Big Ten suspended then-head coach Jim Harbaugh for three games, Moore — the team’s offensive coordinator at the time — served as the team’s interim coach.
As a result of the scandal, Stalions resigned from Michigan and coached at the high school level in 2024. After leading Michigan to a perfect 15-0 record and a national championship, Harbaugh jumped to the NFL as the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach. Moore was installed as the team’s head coach after Harbaugh’s departure.
Moore’s two-game suspension is reportedly the result of Moore allegedly deleting a 52-message text chain with Stalions after reports of the sign-stealing scandal emerged. Those texts were reportedly recovered, according to ESPN.

As part of the suspension, Moore will be banned from any team-related duties those weeks, meaning he will not be allowed to coach practice ahead of Michigan’s games against Central Michigan and Nebraska.
Michigan went 8-5 in Moore’s first full season as head coach. At the end of the season, Michigan ranked No. 25 on Yahoo Sports’ way-too-early Top 25 ahead of the 2025-26 season.
