LANSING, MI — Something was telling Pamela Dietrich it was time to play the Mega Millions. The 58-year-old Linden resident sure is happy she listened to the feeling as she won a $3 million prize in the Mega Millions drawing held on April 11.
“I don’t consistently play Mega Millions, but I do play from time to time,” Dietrich said. “I had an itch to play for this drawing, so I logged into my Lottery account and purchased a ticket.
“The next morning, I saw an email from the Lottery regarding a prize. I had a hard time believing it when I saw I had won $3 million! I called the Lottery first thing Monday morning to verify that it was real and schedule an appointment to claim my big prize. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this!”
Dietrich matched all five white numbers drawn — 15-37-38-56-58 — to win a $1 million prize. However, recent changes to the Mega Millions game included an automatic multiplier for her win, which for her ticket was worth 3x, pushing her total win to $3 million.
“Congratulations to Pamela, the first player in Michigan to become a millionaire playing the new Mega Millions game,” said Lottery Commissioner, Suzanna Shkreli. “The enhanced Mega Millions game features bigger prizes at every non-jackpot prize tier, better odds to win the jackpot, better odds overall, larger starting jackpots, and faster-growing jackpots – all great features for Lottery players – and I am excited Pamela was able to cash in!”
Dietrich bought her ticket on the Michigan Lottery website and says she plans on using the money to remodel her home, buy a new car and save the remainder.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed a $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.
And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Powerball winner worth $250,000 sold in Bloomfield Hills in 2024 went unclaimed. That money went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
