CLEVELAND, Ohio — After summer-like and dry temperatures on Thursday, showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into Northeast Ohio on Friday before a cooldown on Saturday.
A cold front will be responsible for bringing the unsettled weather Friday, which is expected to move through the region later in the evening and into the overnight hours.
Ahead of the front on Friday, a spotty shower is possible in the morning with a few storms popping up in the afternoon. Humidity in the region will feel a little sticky during the day with dew points near 60 degrees. That humidity, combined with high temperatures in the 70s, will support modest instability in the atmosphere, forecasters with the National Weather Service said in a discussion. Any breaks in the clouds during the day Friday also will add to the instability.
Precipitation chances will ramp up into the late evening and overnight hours as scattered showers and thunderstorms sweep across the region. While a stronger storm here and there will make local downpours possible, the dynamics in the atmosphere won’t support widespread severe activity.
Because of the scattered nature of the weather on Friday, precipitation amounts will vary across the region. Locally higher amounts are possible in any location that sees a thunderstorm.
Chillier temperatures on Saturday
While showers could linger into Saturday morning, it’s the change in temperature that will be most noticeable. A north wind will make for cooler temperatures in the mid 40s to lower 50s throughout the morning and early afternoon.
Once skies clear and the sun comes out later in the afternoon Saturday, temperatures will try to recover into the mid 50s. There won’t be enough daylight to allow for the temperatures to climb much beyond that before they begin to fall into the overnight hours.
The clear skies and low surface winds will make for a chilly night overnight Saturday into Sunday. Low temperatures will dip down into the mid 30s to mid 40s. Frost can’t be ruled out in the Central Highlands of Ohio, forecasters noted.
