GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Western Colorado is on the edge of seeing 90 degree highs for the first time this year! Sunny skies with highs near 89 can be expected today with tomorrow seeing much of the same. Gusty outflow winds can be as high as 25 miles per hour. Tonight, cloud coverage will slowly start to roll in with overnight lows only barely escaping the sixties into the upper fifties. The gusty winds that have been seen the last few days will stick around until week’s end as well.
Temperatures climb another 10 degrees around the region today under cloudless skies and gusty southwest winds. Hot, dry, and windy conditions will produce critical fire weather conditions around the region today through Saturday. Red Flag Warnings are in place for some areas of Utah today and Friday. Non-zero precipitation chances return this weekend, but confidence remains low with divergent model solutions posing questions to moisture availability.
There is high pressure building up in the region. A few pockets of moisture have produced some clouds on terrain features this side of the Great Basin. However, warm and dry air is exerting its influence around the region. Temperatures will continue to climb above average as the warming trend that has slowly been happening throughout the week reaches its peak. Some scattered clouds will continue to move across the region thanks to pockets of upper level moisture. “Visual Flight Rule” conditions will continue though. Light terrain driven winds can be expected overnight tonight. Gusty winds will pick back up again Thursday afternoon with most terminals seeing winds in the 20 to 30 miles per hour range. Winds will diminish again around sunset Thursday evening.
Overall, expect a hot one today!
