DENVER — It’ll be a relatively quiet night across Colorado with a just a few isolated storms this evening. Otherwise, look for partly cloudy skies and breezy winds overnight. Lows will dip into the low 50s along the I-25 corridor.
Friday will be the warmest day of the week in the Denver metro, with highs soaring into the mid to upper 80s. The I-25 corridor stays relatively dry, but it’ll be a different story along the northeastern plains.
That extra heat, combined with increasing humidity over the far northeast corner of the state, could spark a couple of strong to severe storms late in the day, especially near Sterling, Akron and Julesburg. Folks out there are under the “slight risk” category for large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes Friday afternoon into the evening.
As we head into the Memorial Day weekend, the weather starts to shift. We’ll see a better chance of strong to severe afternoon/evening storms on Saturday in the Denver metro and plains, with highs in the mid 70s. So far, the Front Range is under a “marginal risk” of severe weather Saturday. Keep your eyes to the sky as large hail, fierce wind gusts and an isolated tornado will all be in the cards that afternoon.
Sunday continues the trend toward cooler and wetter. With a stronger storm system moving through, we’ll see widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms across the region. Temperatures will likely stay below normal, with highs in the low to mid 60s.
It’ll be a nice start to Memorial Day and for the BOLDERBoulder as temperatures start off in the upper 40s and into the low 60s by the end of the race. Look for increasing clouds during the afternoon along with a chance of a few scattered afternoon and evening storms. Highs will stay in the upper 60s in the Denver metro.
The storms will stick around for much of next week, as we’ll see daily chances through Wednesday.
Sizzling, sunny Friday in Denver metro; stormy weekend ahead
