After a few calm days, severe weather returns to the North Texas forecast on Thursday, May 22.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will develop near the Red River on Thursday afternoon and move south into the Metroplex, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
The main threats with this activity are damaging winds and “very large hail,” according to the NWS. The tornado threat is low, but non-zero with these storms.
Storm timing will be from 1 to 11 p.m. for much of North and Central Texas, according to the NWS. For Dallas-Fort Worth proper, storms could arrive by 3 p.m. at the earliest, but are more likely between 4 to 9 p.m.
Severe storms are in the mix for North Texas on Thursday.
As storms develop, the NWS is asking North Texans to stay weather aware and to never stop underneath overpasses for shelter.
Overpasses do not provide protection from wind driven hail and stalled vehicles block traffic, which could cause accidents, according to the NWS. Instead, seek shelter in a strong and sturdy building.
