NEED TO KNOW
- Amy Schumer appeared to troll Hilaria Baldwin by recreating her recent viral photos displaying her book
- This is after Baldwin wrote in her book about a celebrity who said “nasty” things about her and her family in a comedy special, though she didn’t mention that star by name
- Schumer joked about the Baldwins in her 2023 comedy special Emergency Contact
After Hilaria Baldwin seemingly called out Amy Schumer in her new book, the comedian appears to have responded.
At one point in her book Manual Not Included, Hilaria, 41, wrote about a “famous person, someone I’ve never met, who said nasty and untrue things about me and my family,” though she did not mention the person by name.
Hilaria wrote about the celebrity mentioning her and husband Alec Baldwin in a special and that “she even tried to bait me and Alec via Instagram.”
“… In this book, is where I can talk about it. I don’t need to use her name and I don’t want any problems with her, and I would like to be left out of any articles that mention her, because she has nothing to do with me. A total stranger,” wrote Hilaria, adding that she doesn’t want an apology and, “No matter what, I hope I never meet her.”
About the situation, Hilaria also added that she “couldn’t understand how someone could be so inherently cruel.”
Schumer, 43, has not publicly commented on Hilaria’s book remarks. However, on Thursday, May 15, the actress appeared to recreate Hilaria’s recent viral sidewalk photos, after social media users pointed out how Hilaria toted her book for cameras. For Schumer’s stunt, she showed off The Anxious Generation, author Jonathan Haidt’s bestselling book about the impact of phones and social media on children.

Schumer was out in New York City to speak at two different events on May 15: The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Comedy vs. Cancer event and the 13th annual Endometriosis Foundation of America’s Blossom Ball.
Hilaria has already poked fun at herself for her May 8 sidewalk book photos. “Don’t be a hater, buy my book,” she wrote on Instagram May 12, sharing a video rolling her eyes at a TikTok that called out her “unnatural” pose.
On May 14, Hilaria posted a humorous video, in which she says, while surrounded by copies of her book, “Everybody is talking about why I was crossing the street and holding my book. Now, in front of my house there are often paparazzi. Sometimes they ask if they can take a photo, and most of the time they don’t. This particular paparazzi happens to be really nice and usually asks my permission.”

“So I was on the way to this book signing and they always tell me to bring at least one book. I wasn’t trying to hold the book in a particular way so that you guys could see the cover. This was not about my book,” she concludes with a laugh.
On that post, Hilaria tagged photographer Elder Ordonez, who snapped the book-walk pictures — the same photographer who also captured Schumer’s recreation.

Schumer joked about the Baldwin family in her June 2023 Netflix special Emergency Contact. “I’m not trying to bully a sociopath — I have a point,” she said onstage while doing a bit about Hilaria and the controversy her accent sparked in 2020, when people questioned the authenticity of her Spanish origins.
“My point is that all evidence points to this woman, since she met her husband, has straight-up pretended to be from Spain.” (Hilaria previously apologized for not being “more clear” about her cultural background.)
In the special, Schumer also poked fun at Hilaria and Alec’s “Von Trapp amount of children” and the names they were given. Hilaria and Alec, 67, who married in 2012, share seven kids.
That wasn’t the first time Schumer has publicly taken aim at Hilaria. In December 2020 — shortly before Hilaria’s heritage controversy emerged — Schumer posted some of Hilaria’s family photos on her own Instagram page, later deleting them and apologizing to Hilaria, who spoke out about receiving negative comments.
Then, in January 2021, Schumer told Entertainment Tonight she chose to delete the posts after Hilaria “seemed a little bit upset.” She added, “I was just like, ‘I don’t want to be mean,’ and she seemed like maybe it hurt her feelings, so I just took it down.”
