Lakeville stolen vehicle suspect arrested after shelter in place order lifted

Lakeville police say an adult male is in custody after fleeing authorities in a stolen vehicle on Thursday, and causing a shelter-in-place for residents in the city during the early afternoon hours.

What happened

The backstory:

The Lakeville Police Department responded at about 1:15 p.m. to Ardmor Village on the 20900 block of Cedar Avenue after receiving reports that a male with multiple active felony warrants was in the area. The 24-year-old adult male was known to law enforcement, and as officers arrived in the area, he fled in a stolen vehicle.

Police say the vehicle made contact with squad cars as it left the area, and entered a field west of Cedar Avenue and 190th Street West. Officers located the vehicle, and determined the man had fled on foot.

Police established a perimeter and initiated a search for the suspect with the help of multiple K-9 teams, a drone unit and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter. Shortly after 4 p.m., the shelter in place was lifted after the suspect wasn’t located in the area.

Capturing the suspect

What we know:

At about 5 p.m., a resident on the 19200 block of Harappa Avenue called 911 to report a man matching the suspect’s description hiding on their porch.

The man, identified as Erik Arreola Morales, was taken into custody.  He was transported to the Dakota County Jail and is facing several new charges, in addition to his outstanding warrants.
