Joanna Gaines is showing off her youngest child’s adorable kitchen skills!
Jo posted a video to her Instagram account showing her youngest son, Crew, busily making sourdough bagels. In the caption, Jo writes, “Bedtime turned bagel time. Little chef making sourdough 🥯”
It’s not the first time the 6-year-old has joined her in the kitchen.
In an interview with Delish, Joanna Gaines says Crew is her constant sidekick.
“I can always wrangle him up anytime. He’s always by my side, so he’s really my sidekick in the kitchen, and he’s truly interested in how things work,” Gaines told Delish. “He wants to touch it, he wants to do it, he wants to stir it. So I have a little cooking buddy with Crew. If anyone’s gonna be a chef in the Gaines family, I put my money on Crew.”
Getting Kids Involved in Cooking Is Jo’s Secret Weapon
Getting her kids to help cook and bake is a game changer for the busy mom of five, who says it’s hard to find a meal everyone wants to eat.
Gaines told Delish, “I have five kids with five very different palates. They all have their specifications. One of my kids just only wants pasta. Nonstop pasta. My 16-year-old boy only wants meat and potatoes and bread.”
Chip and Joanna Gaines share sons Drake, 20, Duke, 16, and Crew, 6 and daughters, Ella,18 and Emmie, 15. While Drake is away at college, corralling the other four for a meal can be a challenge.
Joanna says she sets aside time to meal prep on Sundays. “I will tell all the kids, ‘Okay, what do you want?’ It’s kind of a free-for-all,” she admits. But she tries to make everyone happy. “I normally work out where each of them will get a say.”
But getting them involved in making the food is usually a sure way to guarantee they’ll eat it!
Jo says oldest daughter Ella “loves making Syrian donuts.”
“We’ll do more of these traditional recipes that have a story. She loves those. We’ll do that together,” she says.
Joanna Gaines Loves to Bake at Night
You might think running a huge business empire and raising five kids would be enough to make someone long to go to bed early.
But Joanna says she loves to get in the kitchen late at night and bake up something yummy.
In an Instagram post, Jo writes, “Sourdough > Sleep
One of my favorite things to do is bake at night, and then eat what I bake👩🏻🍳 I love the texture of a sourdough bagel—Like an actual pillow of happiness 🥰”
Obviously, the love of late-night sourdough bagels has rubbed off on Crew, since that’s what he was baking in Jo’s latest Instagram post!
Joanna Gaines Says She’s Making a Conscious Effort to Slow Down
Despite the late-night baking, the HGTV and Magnolia Network star says she’s making a conscious effort to slow down these days.
While talking to Dennis Scully on the April 28 episode of his “Business of Home” podcast, Joanna said she’s learning to be more intentional with what she says “yes” to, and what she says “no” to.
“When people ask, ‘What would you do [if you could do anything]?’ Even if it’s a day to step away and journal, just get outside of it. It’s that intentional time that you’re creating for yourself to be able to dream for what’s next that’s important. Whether it’s three months, a week or a day, it’s that intention to really see above and beyond, is what I would just say to anybody who has a business.”
